Archangel Baby Doll’s Redemption
There was a time I thought I was living in the shadow of death, like something had gone wrong in the wiring of my mind and I had been left half here, half somewhere else I could not name. It started after I lost oxygen and blood flow to my brain, after memory stopped behaving like something I could trust, and the world began to feel like a place I was visiting instead of living inside. Everything felt slightly delayed, slightly unreal, like I was always catching up to my own life but never arriving.
Back then, I thought I was the problem in every room I entered. Even when I was full of laughter, even when I knew I was beautiful, even when I could feel my own brightness in me like something undeniable, there was still a part of me convinced that I had to earn the right to be seen without being misunderstood. I didn’t realize how much of my life had become survival dressed up as personality. I didn’t realize how long I had been calling it “me.” The world used to feel like it had teeth. Fear would turn people into threats before they even spoke. Thoughts would spiral into something I couldn’t always distinguish from truth, and I lived for years trying to decode my own mind like it was sending me warnings I was supposed to survive instead of understand. But slowly, something started to loosen. Not all at once. Not like a miracle. More like waking up and realizing the room is still here, and I am still here too.
After my dad passed, something in me changed shape. Not in a dramatic way. In a quiet way. Like grief didn’t just break me, it softened the edges of everything I was afraid of. I started seeing people again instead of projections. My mother became human instead of overwhelming. My sister became someone wounded in her own way instead of someone I had to fear. My brother became love in motion. Even my old friendships, the ones I thought were gone forever, started to feel like they could exist in a different version of the world.
It felt like landing after a long flight I didn’t remember boarding. Like I had been circling a storm for years and suddenly there was ground again. My nervous system didn’t know what to do with peace at first. It kept waiting for something to go wrong. But nothing did. Or at least, nothing in the way I used to expect. And then I started to understand something I didn’t have language for before. I used to feel like femininity was something I had to perform, like a costume I put on depending on who was looking at me. Something fragile and external, something I had to get right or risk being misunderstood. But now it feels different. It feels like I am not wearing femininity anymore. I am just living inside it. Like it was never a costume at all, just something I had been afraid to fully inhabit.
I feel like I became the version of myself I used to pray for without realizing I was already becoming her. Not erased. Not reset. But returned. Like a doll placed gently back into her own hands.
Archangel Baby Doll isn’t just someone new. She’s the same, but her perspective is fresh as a daisy. She is what was left when fear stopped narrating my life.
